This piece began not with an image, but a word: SEBRA. At first, it was just a sound. Evocative, unresolved. Yet it opened a door. What emerged was an abstract meditation on duality, as embodied by zebras, the cold and the warm, the chaotic and the calm, the deliberate and the accidental.I painted without a plan, letting instinct lead. Midway through, Devendra Banhart’s Seahorse filled the room, a song that dances between softness and intensity, much like the impasto unfolding before me. A song that celebrates freedom and letting go. It became a companion to the process. The zebra motif came last, almost subconsciously. Now, when I revisit the canvas, I see it: a mythical creature that shouldn’t exist but does, an underwater zebra seahorse, born from contradiction and curiosity. It reminds me that meaning often reveals itself after the act of creation. Not before.

An animated, digital twin of SEBRA was exhibited at the 2025 El Jardi Digital festival in Port of Tarragona, Spain.
